Castle Dome principal wins Rodel honor

Castle Dome Middle School Principal Lori Sheffield has been named a Rodel Exemplary Principal for 2016. “It’s exciting,” she said during an interview with the Yuma Sun. “I’m kind of a little star-struck because I know some of the other people who have been exemplary principals or have been nominated, and I think that’s a wow factor for me.”

Castle Dome principal in race for national award

In her career, Castle Dome Middle School Principal Lori Sheffield says she has found teaching to be both art and science. Sheffield, who has been named one of 15 Rodel Exemplary Principal Finalists for 2016 across the state, would know. Her 17-year education career spans teacher, school counselor, assistant principal and principal; she now oversees about 875 middle school students at Castle Dome.

Six NAU alumnae chosen as Rodel Exemplary Teachers

The Rodel Foundation has announced its Exemplary Teachers, a coveted title awarded to just 15 Arizona educators, and six of the winners earned education-related degrees at NAU. The winners, called the state’s best teachers by the Rodel Foundation, will be tasked with mentoring high-potential student teachers, including NAU students.

Nine teachers in Maricopa County and six others statewide were named a Rodel Exemplary Teacher. The Scottsdale-based Rodel Foundation of Arizona annually selects extraordinary teachers and asks them to mentor high-potential student teachers. The teachers are selected based on their students’ achievement in high-needs schools, principal recommendations and observations by Rodel officials.
