Joan Lowell, former senior advancement officer for Donor Services for Arizona Community Foundation, has worked in the human services field since her arrival in Arizona in 1978 and throughout her career. She worked closely with donors, learning of their interests and passions and helping them to match their resources with the community’s needs.
From 1983 to 1994, Joan was executive director of Hospice of the Valley, a nationally recognized non-profit hospice. She served as president of the Hospice Association of America and on the board of the National Association for Home Care to ensure the highest quality hospice services throughout the nation.
Joan left Hospice in 1994 to pursue a long time dream of joining the Peace Corps. She served as a Peace Corps Volunteer in business and non-profit development in Kazakhstan, Central Asia, and continues activities as a volunteer. Since her return in 1996, she and her husband have made several trips to Russia, Ukraine and Thailand; and most recently Malawi, Tanzania and Zimbabwe providing consultation and seminars on business and organization development.
