The Rodel Foundation of Arizona is pleased to announce the latest class of Rodel Promising Student Teachers (RPSTs) from Arizona colleges of education. These 19 high-potential students will be mentored by Rodel Exemplary Teachers as they begin their student teaching requirement during the fall 2014 semester.

“Exemplary Teachers can offer these student teachers invaluable support and mentorship during their field experience,” said Jackie Norton, Rodel President & CEO. “Our Teacher Initiative upholds this notion by providing results-driven mentorship and essential learning opportunities for future Arizona teachers.”

Rodel Promising Student Teachers are an integral part of the Rodel Teacher Initiative. In partnership with university field experience directors, Rodel selects student teachers who are committed to teaching for at least three years in a high-need school and pairs them with mentor Rodel Exemplary Teachers during their required student teaching field experience.

“The Rodel Teacher Initiative aims to ensure new teachers are prepared to be highly effective on their first day teaching,” said Howard Paley, Rodel COO. “These RPSTs will have the opportunity to build a network of excellent teacher mentors at the beginning of their careers, setting them up for success as they continue to grow and develop as professionals.”

RPSTs receive supervision, professional development, and ongoing support from college of education advisors and Rodel staff throughout their student teaching experience and into the first year of their teaching careers. Since 2004, Rodel has selected over 160 Rodel Exemplary Teachers who have mentored over 675 RPSTs. Over 80% of Rodel Graduates continue to teach in high-need Arizona schools.

The Rodel Teacher Initiative is supported by our many partners, including Salt River Project, JPMorgan Chase Foundation, Cox Communications, Carstens Family Funds, Diamond Foundation, Emily Meschter, Zuckerman Community Outreach Foundation, Ventana Charitable Foundation Fund, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, Northern Arizona University College of Education, Arizona State University Teacher Quality Partnership, and the Whiteman Foundation.
